The Cyril B. Bunter Band
Sydney’s Legendary Exponents of The Real Good Boogie!
Since their reformation in 2013, The Cyril B. Bunter Band has well and truly reclaimed their position as Australia’s premier exponents of the Real Good Boogie.
From their humble roots at Sydney’s notorious and legendary Welcome Inn Hotel back in 1972, the Bunters went on to be a national headliner in their own right, releasing two albums and becoming the opening act of choice for overseas touring acts John Mayall, Canned Heat and George Thorogood on numerous Australian tours. In the same period they also became a familiar fixture on the East Coast during many tours playing behind fast friend and Oz blues legend Dutch Tilders.
After disbanding in 1985 during the disco boom, the members of the band all went on to establish individual careers for themselves in various nationally-recognised blues-and-roots acts including the Foreday Riders, King Bees, James T. and the Last Volunteers and Swamphouse among many others.
Then in 2013, The Bunters were invited to reunite for the Thredbo Blues Festival. Audience responses were so overwhelmingly positive that the band re-released their 70s-80s recordings on CD and embarked on their 41st Anniversary Reunion Tour, thrilling fans old and new at the Great Southern Blues Festival, Sydney Blues and Roots Festival, Patonga Blues On The Bay Fest and a succession of full-house club gigs climaxing with a memorable Sydney Basement show.
And now today, The Bunters, their powers undiminished, continue to tour. Three founding members – Gary Lothian (guitar and slide), Jimmy Bee (bass and vocals) and Rosscoe Clark (drums) plus the great Ali Penney on keyboards, are delivering The Real Good Boogie even further afield. 2016 also saw the band join forces with mighty Melbourne harpman Chris Wilson to devastate audiences on a series of shows highlighting the blues and boogie of James Cotton – “SuperHarp!”.
The band’s current CD “THE GOOD BOOGIE LIVE!” compiled from shows on their reunion tour, garnered universally positive reviews and heavy airplay over blues radio nationally, reaching #4 on the ABARAC Blues chart. Their live shows have been described by those in the know as “even better than the first time around”!
2017 is shaping up to be a monster year for the band as they celebrate their 45th Anniversary. They are currently recording their first studio album in 31 years, featuring brand new songs and special guests, and due for release over the summer. And new live collaborations are also in the works, including shows with Oz blues guitar hero Mal Eastick – this format will be appearing for the very first time at Girrakool 2017!

“Hell yeah! Great arse kicking music. Love the guitar work of Gary Lothian, and Ali’s work on keys is sensational.” – Barry (Baz) Maxwell, ‘Blues On The Hill’ 3NRG 99.3FM
“I know a top quality album when I hear one, and I’m hearin’ one! Ripper lead and slide guitars (Gary Lothian), great rhythm section (Rosscoe Clark – drums / Jimmy Bee – bass n vox), all filled out by Ali Penney on keys. If that ain’t enough for you, add in the fact it’s LIVE and the recording actually does it justice! A MUST have for Aussie blues’n’boogie lovers, quality music and energy to burn with not a dud on the whole CD!” – Dougie B, ‘Blues Plus’ 5GTR-FM
